The Midwinter Blues

Anyone who knows me is aware I do not like winter. I don’t like to be cold. I can’t sleep, have know energy, and just generally can’t get myself to function as a normal human. Then there’s the daylight, or lack of it. As soon as the sun sets, my brain tells me the day is over and I can’t do anythings. Run to the store? Too late, it’s dark out. Never mind that it’s only 5 p.m. Go for a walk? Not safe, too dark. I know that I should be doing things. Being productive. I have many hours before it is time to go to bed once the sun sets in winter, and yet, I find it difficult to do so.

This lack of productivity leads me to reject fun things like reading, playing games, watching a new t.v. show. I feel guilty that I haven’t done the things I need to do like dishes or laundry or vacuuming. What do I do? I rot on the couch watching the same four YouTube channels while simultaneously scrolling through social media on my phone. It’s a serious problem.

Why am I writing a blog post about this when I haven’t published the short story I was supposed to post yesterday? I am holding myself accountable. I chose a posting schedule at the beginning of the year and have yet to stick to it. I am frustrated with myself. However, I also am aware that I am not alone in this. The winter season affects a lot of us. A lot of content creators I follow slow down during the winter months. Of course there are a few holidays during that time, but they are also going on much needed vacations and spending time with family.

A vacation from this cold would be nice, and prices are typically cheaper in the winter “off-season”. Alas, I am not going on vacation anytime soon, though a girl can dream. Basically, what I’m trying to say in this babble of a post is, winter sucks. Some people love it, I don’t. I have been struggling but am determined to push through and get out the content I want to make.

This Friday will be a book review. That short story that was supposed to go up on Monday will be some time this week, maybe Saturday. Then, next week will be the previously determined posting schedule, starting with the new Paranormal History series.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck around so far, and to those of you who come back for every post. I truly appreciate each and every one of you.
